A NEW YORK STATE AUTOMOBILE LICENSE PLATE PUZZLE

As many of you know, my automobile license plate is “P T NUT”. When I initially placed it on my car I had a lot of inquires as to what it meant. The most aggressive group was from the Patrol Torpedo Boat Association, which thought I should belong with them. It was also taken to relate to Parent Teacher Associations and Physical Therapy groups. One day while wandering around a mall in New Jersey, I saw a kiosk that sold frames that go around the license plate with a personal message. I had an answer to my dilemma. I purchased a frame and had it engraved with the words “I am crazy about platform tennis”. Now the only question I am asked is “What is platform tennis?”

I am writing about this because I recently saw another New York State plate that read “I lov padle”. Unfortunately I was not able to get close enough to the vehicle to inquire about this “lov”. Maybe he or she is into canoes or shell racing. My hope, of course, is that the owner of this plate is, like me, in love with platform tennis. (I did not see an APTA “PT” bumper sticker on the car, however.)

My first request would be that if the owner of this plate sees this article or some one who knows the owner of the plate sees it, that they make themselves known to me in some manner. One way is by use of e-mail, chuckvasoll@platformtennisnews.com You can also contact me by telephone, (516) 746-7052.

Finally, while on this subject, I would like to hear from all you other lovers of platform tennis who have a unique automobile license plate which relates to our sport. I know that there are a bunch of them out there and because each state may have the same wording, there may be lots of duplicates. The plan would be to publish the list and maybe even get photographs to bear witness to the automotive world about our affection for platform tennis.
