MY SERVE AD IN - Marjorie Hodson, Executive Director of the APTA. She gets high marks for being responsive to requests for information and direction. AD OUT - The cover on Volume 7, Issue 1 September 2005 of Platform Tennis. “This Could Be yours” is not explained and no direction is given what it is all about. (Also shouldn’t the ‘y’ in “yours” be capitalized ?) AD OUT - Presentation of Platform Tennis (the Magazine). The publisher continues to be enthralled with color. Backgrounds and colored type on black pages makes reading the magazine difficult to enjoy. DEUCE – www.ptmonline.com, publisher Wayne Dollard’s web site. It’s neither a “must visit” or a “forget-about it”. By selling paddle merchandise, however, he continues to compete with the very people he needs to make the magazine successful, the club professionals. AD IN – The Reilly Green Mountain Public Court Challenge. An interesting approach to taking the sport out of the country clubs and into the municipal parks. AD IN – Bulletworks publicity contest. Let’s hope they get lots of entries. They are correct about needing more articles about the sport in general publications. DEUCE - Creation of APTA Region VII. It’s an excellent step forward to strengthen the sport in the south but exclusion of Northern Virginia and Metro Washington DC, (to be retained in Region III) dilutes its base of operations. It’s akin to “gerrymandering” in the political arena. AD IN – Article by Mike Rahaley on “Making the Transition from Tennis to Platform Tennis”. This is an excellently worded piece in the September issue of Platform Tennis (Magazine). There are several key points to remember. AD OUT – Announcement about “Platform Tennis Expo” at Huntington YMCA on Page 27 of Platform Tennis (Magazine). It was all over when my copy of the magazine arrived. It is very difficult to place time-related copy in the publication. The note also failed to indicate that the location, “Huntington”, was on Long Island, not in West Virginia. AD IN – “Notes for a Good League Season” (Page 28 PTM) by Jean Kempner. It should be reprinted and handed out to every Team Captain and Player participating in a League. It’s short and to the point (a winning one!). |
