MY
SERVE
AD OUT – Cover of “Platform Tennis” magazine, Vol. 8 Issue 3, showing the server foot faulting. This violation of the rules does not need more publicity. AD IN – Condition of Cover of “Platform Tennis”. Last month I stated in this column that every issue of the magazine that I received arrived with a torn and damaged cover. I am pleased to report that Vol. 8 Issue 3 stopped that cycle. It came in the mail in perfect condition. AD OUT– APTA financial grant to Chapel Hill Tennis Club to build platform tennis courts. Everyone can be in favor of expanding our sport but our dues should not be funneled to a private club for this purpose.. DEUCE– Photographs in “Platform Tennis”. I applaud the magazine for the volume of photographs but I find it disturbing that so many do not have identifying captions. A prime example in Vol. 8 Issue 3 is on page 6. There are a group of individuals around a net under the “Staying In Touch” article by Marjorie Hodson. I figured it out but how many APTA members know who they are. AD OUT – Lack of programs at two locations with new courts. New Hyde Park and Port Washington on Long Island each have public parks with two new courts. The APTA professes great interest in bringing the sport to the public but no effort has been forthcoming in the President’s home territory to demonstrate our game in either of these locations.
