AD IN (+) DEUCE (=) AD OUT (-)

AD OUT– Women’s National Championship final for 2007 played on Saturday. For over a decade the Women’s Championship final has been played just before the Men’s final on Sunday, the last day of the tournament. It helped draw a larger crowd and gave the gals “equal billing”.

DEUCE– The 2007 National Championships at the New York Athletic Club. Conducting the Men’s and Women’s National Championships is a tremendous undertaking. The NYAC is to be congratulated for taking on the task. Unfortunately a number of omissions (was there a program?) (where was the scoreboard?) hampered a spectator’s enjoyment of the tournament.

AD OUT– Format for the “Big Daddy Cup”. From a regular draw, an attempt was made to also construct a competition among the geographical Regions of the APTA. Most of the Regions did not have the five teams needed, so substitutions from Region I were employed. It was not a meaningful competition.

AD IN– The labor and enthusiasm of Tony Ettinger to construct and carry out the new 95+ tournaments for the BDC (Big Daddy Cup). Often good ideas and plans are proposed but never are completed. Tony had a plan and carried it out.

AD IN– Platform Tennis Trivia Quiz devised by Bob Brown for the players at the National Championships for 50+, 60+ and 70+. No one answered all ten questions correctly but two tied with seven right responses. A sample question – In a game in which the score is 30-15, the players realize that the wrong partner is serving. What is done under the Rules? Answer: See Rule 16.
