MY SERVE!!
By David Kjeldsen

ACE – Ross, California. The Lagunitas Invitational is a long standing Region 6 event. Even with rain every year, the players are always smiling and the hospitality is second to none. The Lagunitas Club will soon be adding their third court in the middle of a grove of one hundred foot redwoods making this setting the most picturesque on the tour.

FAULT – Duke Henning Videos. While the platform story lines have merit, crude language has ruined what was obviously a lot of effort to produce.

ACE – PPTA. Once again a great job of keeping instructional videos coming out on a regular basis.

FAULT – Lack of Attribution. While our sport is very small, there is no excuse for not giving credit to the authors and creators of articles, photos, videos, or slide shows that often times are just “copied and pasted” from website to website, newsletter to magazine, or the like. Just because intellectual property is available on the “web” doesn’t mean it is free for all.

DEUCE – APTA ventures back into retail. Let’s hope the APTA’s online store, which is currently selling 2009 National’s merchandise, stays with APTA logo-ed materials only. While some have suggested that the next logical step is for the APTA to start selling paddles and balls as a member benefit much as Platform Tennis Magazine does as a service to its readers, hopefully the APTA board will steer clear of this obvious conflict of interest.

ACE – Photographers. Can you believe the action shots that we are seeing across all media this season?

DEUCE – Platform Parents. Gotta love those parents who make an effort to get their kids involved in our great sport. You have to wonder though when you hear parents berate tournament directors because there isn’t enough water on the court for their kids. Whose responsibility is it?

FAULT – Platform Tennis Magazine Delivery. In nearly every issue there are articles and some calendar information that have already passed by the time the magazine is received by the membership.  In Volume 10 Issue 3, for example, the Junior Nationals were completed, yet the tournament was in the calendar and prominently mentioned in the Executive Director's column as being something "to look forward to".

ACE – Sophistication and humor sells. Could be the best tournament logo. What are your thoughts? Wilmington Women’s Paddle Open
