Senior Nationals
“…almost all the senior tournaments are in the east which adds the traveling expense… the historical housing factor is no
longer part of the equation. If you add it all up, entry fee, travel cost, and housing it will cost me a $1000.00 to go a National Event…. Most of the 45 age minimum tournaments have been converted to combined age tournaments (90 or 95). This is great for the younger players and a few older guys who still think they are kids (like me!), but I know a lot of guys that won't play these tournaments because the youthful competition is too tough.” Walt Peckinpaugh

“One answer: Stop charging them a $50 for a full APTA membership for their one national senior tournament… this is a major sore point for many…” Name withheld by request

“Great article, there are a "lot" of senior players out there. How do we get them out to the nationals, or locals? Do you think, "just maybe" they do not want to enter a national tournament or local tournament. Most real great players I know just want to play, and play different players locally.

At this age , why would one want to be on the court or at a venue where they are not treated very friendly. It happened in tennis also. I went to Palm Springs, California to play in a national tennis senior , and I felt like I had the plague. It was like, "what are you doing here, and "who are you "? No one at this age wants that hassle. They love the game to much. They rather just stay home and play local.
Just my opinion.” Jim McGovern, PPTA, APTA, Cape Cod

General
“Did you see the cover of the last Platform Tennis? The one that had the feature on Scott Bondurant inside. The guy serving on the cover has clearly just walking onto the court with 2 feet and committed a foot-fault. They have the gall to have a full page article inside about 'Foot Fault Police'. Get a grip - don't put that photo on the cover, please. Give them grief for me.” Joe McMahon
